Corey Marsey is an award-winning Art Director with extensive experience in graphic design and art direction for print editorial, digital media, video content, brand identity and advertising. His assignments include startups, redesigns and ongoing direction of magazines for leading publishers, books, catalogs, special sections, and digital multimedia. The Society of Publication Designers, American Society of Magazine Editors, Folio, The Content Council and Apple have recognized his work.
He began his design career at The School of Visual Arts in New York City and quickly landed a position for over five years with FaheyO’Connor, a boutique design studio. Under the direction of powerhouse duo Maryjane Fahey and David O’Connor, he contributed to over 25 wide-ranging publications. Highlights include the launch of Women’s Health, the launch of LivingRoom with Sara Ruffin Costello, and the redesigns of OrganicStyle, BusinessWeek, AdvertisingAge and Crain’s New York Business. Corey additionally had the opportunity to collaborate with various retail merchants on package and product design including The New York Botanical Gardens and popular New York City restaurant, Nello.
Corey spent a brief time working for Judith Regan at the ReganMedia imprint of HarperCollins Publishing prior to its Los Angeles relocation. He created book jackets for high profile titles and New York Times Bestsellers, as well as designed and guided various photography, home and style books such as Kelly Wearstler’s Domicilium Decoratus and Otto Stupakoff’s RioErotico.
Returning to his magazine roots, he joined Shostak Studios Inc. Within those six years he worked on multiple magazines, which included the launch of Lenny Dykstra’s PlayersClub, Merrill Lynch’s Return on Equities, and the redesign of JOSPT. He continuously art-directed GreenSource, a bi-monthly magazine of sustainable design and SNAP, a publication focused on architectural products and design.
A trailblazer in Adobe Digital Publishing, Corey was sought after by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc. to shepherd the prototype and launch the first digital edition of Whole Living, which was soon awarded “App of the Week” on iTunes. He stayed on staff as an Art Director and continued to manage the monthly design and production of each issue while directing and producing additional video, multimedia and photo content for both print and digital.
Corey remained with MSLO while crossing over as an Art Director for Martha Stewart Living. While there he redesigned and strengthened the publication for iPad, which was awarded “App Store Best of 2013” by Apple. He played an integral role in generating all editorial video content including the American Made series, Kitchen Wisdom, and how-to series for craft, style, gardening, lifestyle and food as well as creating and producing all stop-motion cover animations which increased its authority in its lifestyle and culinary categories. He continued to direct photo shoots specific to the iPad as well as for print.
New opportunities brought Corey to Condé Nast and landed him at Bon Appétit. While there, he oversaw the tablet section of the brand and revamped the overall design and performance. He capitalized on the Cook Like a Pro series and brought the 360º vision to life. He paved the way for this existing print series to be transformed it to a multimedia experience across all platforms, which consisted of how-to slideshows for the tablet and enticing stop-motion Instagram clips. This led to further in-depth instructional videos. Corey also maximized the brands presence by art directing and launching a print special interest publication titled Bon Appétit Comfort.
